What time do we start selling barbecue?
CHICKEN
Our smoked chicken barbecue halves are for sale beginning at 11 am on Friday, July 28. Just park and come to the booth with the long line 🙂 Chicken sales continue until around 4 pm or until we are sold out. They “fly” out of the window so be sure to arrive early to get yours!
PORK
Pork barbecue sales begin at 7 am on Saturday, July 29 and continue until we are sold out!
What food do you sell and when?
When does everything start?
The Irish Picnic is held every last Friday and Saturday of July.
Our 2023 dates and times are:
FRIDAY, JULY 28, 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm
SATURDAY, JULY 29, 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
Silent Auction: Friday 3:00PM-8:00PM
Is the secret barbecue sauce spicy?
Our famous barbecue sauce is one of a kind! There is only one option available, and it’s not for the faint of heart. It has a kick to it and you will become instantly addicted. Let’s just put it this way: Your toddlers might want the sauce on the side!
The Walsh family has had custody of the secret barbecue sauce recipe since 1925 and it was a family recipe brought from Ireland so we can’t tell you how spicy it is or isn’t. This famous sauce recipe is kept under lock and key and one day will be passed to his sons. A 300 gallon kettle is used to make the secret sauce.

What is the cost to get in?
There is no fee to enter and parking is free. We do charge for the food and games as part of our fundraiser. The live entertainment is completely free!

Where can I park?
We have a large field next to our Irish Picnic grounds with plenty of parking. All parking is free.
Where are you located?
We are located in McEwen, Tennessee, one hour west of Nashville. Our address is 175 St Patrick St, McEwen, TN 37101.
Where can we stay when we visit?
Can we buy souvenirs?
Yes – We have a souvenir booth with many popular items for purchase. We have t-shirts, hats, aprons, infant and children sizes and other items available.
If you want to purchase them before or after the Irish Picnic, you can call the school or church office. The price list varies by item:

Do you have an ATM?
Yes! We will have an ATM located on the picnic grounds.
Where are the restrooms?
We have a group of portable toilets and a hand washing station along the perimeter between the picnic grounds and the parking area.
How many pounds of meat will be smoked?
Each year, volunteers for the event barbecue 20,000 pounds of pork shoulder and 4,000 chicken halves.
